Lowering the Barrier to Create Art

Growing up, I lacked drawing skills and even had a disheartening experience in an art class as a child that dampened my enthusiasm for drawing. However, years later, my interest was reignited, and I discovered “Draw Real People,” a book that profoundly influenced me and taught me to draw. I devoted considerable time to drawing, exploring various art books along the way. Once I achieved a level where I could satisfactorily draw what I envisioned, albeit not at a professional artist’s level, I found myself drawing less. The primary reason was the time-consuming nature of pencil-drawn portraits. Like many, I had to balance my time between art and other life responsibilities. This personal journey highlights two major challenges for non-artists:

  1. The necessity of acquiring some skill level to produce art.
  2. The substantial resources, like time and money, required for art creation.

With Stable Diffusion, I found these barriers significantly lowered. While it doesn’t eliminate the need to understand color theory, composition, and lighting, it enables the creation of art that would have been unattainable due to these constraints. The two images I generated using Stable Diffusion illustrate this: whether opting for an anime style or a more realistic approach, Stable Diffusion saved the extensive time that manual drawing of intricate details like daisies in the background would require. For me, focusing on such labor-intensive details isn’t as rewarding, especially if there are ways to bypass it. Stable Diffusion offers a solution, empowering users to produce art that was once hindered by these challenges.
